Safaris for Experienced Safari goers with the Safari bug
Ready for your next Safari? From revisiting favorite corners of Tanzania and Kenya to venturing into Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Namibia, there's always more of Africa waiting for you.
Guides make your Safari. Me, Mefi on Safari in Tanzania - it never gets old, even when you were raised there!
Karibu tena — welcome back. We are honored you're returning to Africa on another Journey to Africa Safari, and if you're returning to Africa but planning with us for the first time, Asante Sana for trusting us with this next chapter. We can't wait to show you more of the Africa we know and cherish! Having both been born and raised in Africa, and spent 25+ years designing Safaris and experiencing everything the continent has to offer, most of our guests end up returning again, and again to experience something new. A new country, a new region, a new eco-system, new cultures. Africa is vast and diverse.
Ready to do something different from your first Safari? Here are a few ideas to get the ball rolling. First-time Safari goers, these ideas are for you too — we've experienced everything below ourselves and would love to talk through the details for your Safari.
Revisit Your Favorite Spots
You can never tire of Tarangire National Park and Oliver's Camp, as our repeat client Carlos Mata will tell you, or return to Ngorongoro Crater for a third time like Alisa Thomas did. We all have our favorites worth revisiting.
Same Country, Different Parks
Spend time with chimpanzees at Mahale Mountains while staying on the shores of Lake Tanganyika at Greystoke Mahale. Explore wild Ruaha National Park in Southern Tanzania, or go remote in Western Tanzania's Katavi National Park. For a slower pace, spend time in Selous Game Reserve. Or trek the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda to get close to the gorillas. Maybe opt for a more water-based Safari in the waterways of the Okavango delta - game drives turn to Mokoro rides and you’ll find yourself gliding through channels, in awe of how quiet this is compared to a land cruiser, and how unfazed the animals are of you.
Explore New Areas Within the Same Park, at a different time of year.
Our second-time client Erik and Diane Hoffer spent time in Northern Serengeti after already enjoying Central Serengeti. Joe and Fay Wagner, on their second Safari, stayed at Alamana Wilderness Camp in our private concession area east of Serengeti National Park, following their second climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro. Some parks and wilderness areas are so vast and varied that they feel like a different world. A Safari to Northern Serengeti in the dry season and the migration crossings are in full swing (July - September) is a totally different experience to the lush, green plains of the Southern Serengeti in January-March when the landscape is vibrant and thousands of baby wildebeest are born.
Betsy & Mark’s third Safari with us was to Botswana.
Go to a New Country in Vast Africa
Al and Gail Ripa loved their experience with us so much, they asked us to design a full 10-day Uganda Safari itinerary. Alisa Thomas brought her mother along on a trip through South Africa and Botswana. With 54 other countries to explore across Africa, there's always somewhere new and each trip will be totally unique. If you’ve been to East Africa, heading South - Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia will give you a very different experience.
Go With One of Our Specialist Guides
Drew and Darrell Howton returned to Tanzania and explored the Serengeti with Paul Oliver. Paul Kirui — a gold-standard guide in Kenya, named one of the top 20 guides in Africa — took our clients on an unforgettable ride through the Masai Mara. A specialist guided safari is perfect for returning Safari goers who want more in depth understanding of the eco-systems. If you’re into birding, we can get you the perfect guide to help you get the most from your game drives.
Add Activities That Deepen Your Love of Africa
Step out of the Safari vehicle and onto a private Serengeti Walking Safari for two to three days. Go horseback riding at Manyara Ranch or in Laikipia. Try scuba diving on Pemba Island if you've already explored Zanzibar. Visit Pangani Beach near Tanga, or Ras Kutani near Dar es Salaam. Vamizi Island in Mozambique is pure paradise. Head to the stunning, otherworldly Lake Natron, far off the beaten path — spend a few days in this soda-ash landscape, removed from the tourist trail. Or climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, for the ultimate adventure.
Take It Slow
Spend longer in one place — stunning Chem Chem Lodge on the shores of Lake Manyara, or Sand River Selous in the vast Selous ecosystem. Longer stays mean longer walks, night game drives, and true wilderness immersion in some of Tanzania's most special corners. Let the rhythm of the bush take over.
