Nomad Tanzania

withguide.jpg

I bet it is not difficult to conjure up the first sight of Nathan, Rowland, or Festo showing up at River Trees Inn in Arusha while you are having breakfast or meeting you at the airstrip in Serengeti National Park. Mzee Jairo or Kakae [aka Wilfred] pointing out the leopard family or pride of lions napping on the cool kopjes under the hot African sun or rushing you to the wildebeest and zebra crossing by the Mara River in Serengeti. Chimp-man Butati and Mattias who made you laugh when trekking in the steep Mahale Mountains from Greystoke Mahale to spend time with the amazing chimps. They are all supported by the hundreds of people in the offices, the work-shops, the behind the scenes Safari lodge crew and more.

Did you visit the village from Entamanu Ngorongoro? That village get a percentage from your stay at lovely Entamanu Ngorongoro for their clean water and education. The village in Kigoma, where your boat was docked to take you to Greystoke Mahale, Nomad has a health outreach program there for the villagers. North, South, East or West in Tanzania, where there are Safari lodges, Nomad Trust has a hand in the education of the community; teaching the future generation in conservation - two things that work side-by-side. From communities helping in wildlife conservation, de-snaring projects, stopping bush-meat trade, and keeping eyes open for poaching activity which is on the rise because of no people in the parks.

Asilia Africa

Elissa_withO'Rourke.jpg

Who can forget fun loving cheeky Baraka who my guest Kevin claims steals his bacon, to John Bingo who together with Baraka make a formidable team. Calm Festo who has been guiding from his days at Honeyguide Foundation, an important organization in Tanzania, starting off as a mechanic to bubbly Jacob, the Maasai guide in Rekero Camp; his family lives right outside of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve boundaries. Elisa - on the right - who made my guests enjoy one of their last Safari together.

Asilia have a few inciatives that are always working behind the scenes using your Safari dollars. Twende Porini is one of my favorites as they take children from schools in Tanzania to the parks - something that is not easy accessible for most Tanzanians as lodging, park fees, and travel costs are prohibitive. With the guides, they teach the future of Tanzania about conservation and how preserving the national parks are in the best interest of their future. Seeing kids smile because they just saw their first elephant or lion is infectious. Once you know the value, you do better to protect.

Singita

Singita guides have guided some of the most recognized names on this Earth - from former US President Barak Obama, actor and philanthropoligist George and Amal Clooney, to some of my guests who want the ultimate luxury. Bernard guided my guests in 2019 when they spent 6 nights in Singita Serengeti conservation. Natalie celebrated her milestone birthday in Singita and it was one for the books.

Singita has it’s hands in a wide range of projects throughout Eastern and Southern Africa. They have so many projects that are based on wildlife conservation, helping the community, and sustainability. Their wildlife conservation initiatives range from rhino relocation to anti-poaching which run hand-in-hand with the surrounding community.

If you have stayed at Singita, or heading that way, and want to help, please support them below.

Guide friend

I know most of you keep in touch with your Safari guide/guides personally after your Safari. The guides become friends I know. I know most of the guides you have been on Safari with and they are amazing people. If the time comes and you want to reach out and offer help, feel free to do so. If you need my help to reach out to the guide, I am happy to help.

#AllInThisTogether

Our focus at Journey To Africa is going to be mostly for our Safari partners in Tanzania, my home country. The guides are my personal friends. I know their families. The staff at Nomad Tanzania, Asilia Africa, and Singita are people I chat with on a regular bases when I am planning your Safari. Together, we are responsible for making sure your Safari was/is amazing!

Without your help, we are at risk in so many areas.
When you are ready to go back on Safari to Tanzania, my friends - and I know for many of you as well - we will be waiting for you. We can’t wait for that to come soon.

Until then!
Asante,
Mefi
